The YMCA of Greater Long Beach - Introductory Blog Post

For a multimedia storytelling final project in my JOUR 240 class at CSULB, I've chosen to highlight a notable non-profit organization in the nearby Long Beach area. This non-profit organization I’ve chosen to collaborate with is the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is a non-profit organization that offers programs, services, and initiatives that are focused on concepts such as youth development, social responsibility, and healthy living. These programs, services, initiatives, etc. are aimed to strengthen people individually and — by extension — the overall surrounding community. By strengthening the foundations of communities in Long Beach and other neighboring cities, the YMCA seeks to unify people around the idea of “community” and create an environment where people of all backgrounds can grow together and reach their full potential.
My overall goal for the project is to further increase overall awareness of and engagement on the YMCA’s Instagram platform and — by extension — further increase promotion of the organization in Long Beach and other surrounding areas. I plan to achieve my goals by utilizing forms of multimedia I have used so far during this semester, such as podcasts discussing the organization, a short video describing the organization’s mission, cause, goals, and values, audio-recorded interviews from various people who are and/or have been members of the organization’s various programs, and photographs depicting the programs and events that are managed by the organization.
